Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said Monday that he foresees the country having a sufficient supply of the COVID-19 vaccine to inoculate all of those eligible by September.
Suga, speaking to reporters at the Prime Minister's Office, said he spoke by telephone Saturday with Albert Bourla, chairman and CEO of U.S. drugmaker Pfizer Inc., and an effective agreement was reached to increase the supply of vaccines to Japan.
The two spoke during Suga's visit to the United States.
About 110 million people are eligible for the vaccine in Japan. As the vaccine requires two shots per person, 220 million doses will be necessary.
