Sales of a sembei rice cracker to celebrate the appointment of new Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga began Wednesday at various places including the House of Representatives No. 2 office building in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo.

Daito Co., based in Arakawa Ward, Tokyo, which makes snacks featuring politicians, is producing and selling "Suga-chan kawara-wari sembei" (Suga's roof-tile breaking rice cracker). The packaging and the sembei itself depict Suga, who did karate in his youth, striking a pose of thrusting his fist forward and shouting "Ossu!"

The ingredients include rice produced in Suga's home of Akita Prefecture.

Daito President Tomofumi Okubo, 43, said, "We have high expectations of Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga as small and midsize companies have been greatly affected by the novel coronavirus."

A box of 16 sembei sells for 700 yen excluding tax.

It can also be purchased at souvenir shops in Akita Prefecture and on Daito's online shopping site. The company also plans to sell "Suga-chan manju" sweets later this month.
