An east Suffolk family theme park plans to build four new rides in a bid to modernise attractions.
Pleasurewood Hills, a theme park located near Lowestoft, opened its gates to thrillseekers in 1983.
Now, planning proposals submitted to East Suffolk Council could see the Star Flyer, Spinning Coaster, Apple Coaster and Big Wheel introduced as attractions.
Star Flyer, a 30m high thrill ride, is described as offering “panoramic views across the park”.
The 36m Big Wheel, the Apple Coaster and the Spinning Coaster – a 12m tall family-friendly roller coaster – will all accommodate younger visitors and families.
The park is open seasonally on selected dates between April and October.
The application follows the purchase of the park by Premier Attraction Ltd last October.
“The proposals form part of a wider strategy to reinvigorate the park, increase visitor numbers, extend dwell time and ensure that Pleasurewood Hills remains competitive within the regional tourism and leisure market,” said the planning statement.
It added that all four attractions are located on “land that has historically accommodated rides or associated attractions”.
The new rides are part of a wider investment package to secure Pleasurewood Hills as a key visitor attraction within east Suffolk.
If approved, they won’t be the only new attractions opening in the UK.
A new £15 million Paw Patrol themed land is set to open at a UK theme park this spring.
Chessington World of Adventures started construction on the site, styled as Adventure Bay, in March 2025.
The 1.4-acre immersive land will feature a lookout tower and four rides, each themed around a different member of the Paw Patrol pack.
Ride highlights include the Chase’s Mountain Mission rollercoaster, a spinning flight on Skye’s Helicopter Heroes, Zuma’s Hovercraft drifter ride and Marshall’s Firetruck Rescue through Adventure Bay.
