Suffering Rottweiler put down after being found in 'terrible state' on Leeds street

A Rottweiler had to be put down after it was found collapsed and in a "terrible state" on a Leeds street.

A member of the public found the suffering dog on Ashton Street, Harehills, on Saturday night (August 8) and called the RSPCA.

The female dog, who was named Rosie by the collecting officers, was thin, had sore eyes, a sore mouth and feet. Pus was seeping out of her eyes and gums, while she also had overgrown nails and a possible spinal issue.

The RSPCA believes that she must have been suffering for some time and the state she was in "did not occur overnight".

As her condition did not improve after she was put on a drip, Rosie - who was not microchipped - was put to sleep on humane grounds.

They are now appealing for information to try to find her owner.

Rosie was put down on humane grounds by the RSPCA (RSPCA)

Inspector Kris Walker, who is investigating, said: “She was picked up by one of our animal collection officers Hannah Williams who took her straight to the vets.

“Rosie - as she was named by Hannah - remained on a drip until yesterday, when her condition deteriorated further and the vet treating her advised that she needed to be put to sleep on humane grounds.

“It’s very upsetting for everyone involved but sadly she was just so poorly.

“She wasn’t microchipped so at the moment we have no way of tracing her owner. If anyone recognises her and can help we want to hear from you.

“I believe she was dumped. She couldn’t stand at all when she was found, so it seems very unlikely that she ended up on this street on Saturday night of her own accord.

“She was in a terrible state and this didn’t occur overnight. This dog has been suffering for some considerable time.”

If you have information, call the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018 and ask to leave a message for Kris.
