Anyone with a fever or recent onset respiratory symptoms has been urged to come forward for testing at the McDonald Jones Stadium clinic to know if they have contracted the coronavirus.
Hunter New England Health is searching for lingering cases in the community as the stadium "mega clinic" is due to wind up on Sunday.
The number of completed swabs at the stadium was expected to reach 5000 by the end of business Wednesday, a Hunter New England Health statement said, noting NSW has one of the highest testing rates in the world with "capacity to test" more than 8000 people a day.
Public Health Physician, Dr David Durrheim congratulated the people of Newcastle for their testing efforts.
"This is an amazing achievement and shows how dedicated we are to ensuring our city remains safe from COVID-19.
"Pleasingly, we have had no positive cases so far but results are still being processed and there is still work to do to ensure we are testing those most likely to have the virus.
"We are urging anyone with symptoms, including sore throat, fever, cough or shortness of breath to book a test before the clinic packs up on Sunday.
"Reaching those with symptoms is critical to ensuring we capture cases in the community," he said
Those wishing to be tested can contact the drive-through clinic on 4964 7497 to arrange an appointment, prior to attending. The clinic operates daily from 8am to 4.30pm until Sunday 17 May 2020.
