When you think of suede, it’s probably accompanied by a wave of early 2000s nostalgia. Slouchy knee high boots and hobo bags styled with low rise skinny jeans and itty bitty crop tops. The good ol’ golden days.
We know trends are cyclical in nature, so it’s no surprise that suede’s back. But boy, is it back with force. It’s everywhere, from influencers snapping pics in plush bomber jackets to the rise of suede bowling bags decorated with Labubus and bag charms that are filling Pinterest boards.
The soft, slightly fuzzy texture has been creeping its way back for a couple seasons. Acne Studios, Lowewe, Marni and Miu Miu were the first big-name designers to send suede down the runway during the Spring/Summer 24 season.
This Spring/Summer 25 season, it was designers like Chloe, Hermes, Versace and Prada to deliver their interpretation of the trend. Boxy suede coats, sleek midi skirts, a plethora of bags and warm, rich tones were all common denominators across the board.
In terms of suede out in the wild, Bella Hadid and Dakota Johnson are two of the celebs who have been papped participating in the trend. Hadid has a soft spot for boho suede bags, wearing both the Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bag 39 ($895) and a Valentino suede fringe bag ($3,500) out and about. Dakota Johnson has been seen in an assortment of suede jackets and bags.
I’d call out big name influencers who have been propelling the suede trend forward, but tbh, everyone’s been getting on board, so it’s impossible to give those bragging rights to one or two names exclusively. Let’s just say it’s been a team effort from all the fashion baddies who are working overtime in their suede fits.
The great thing about suede? It comes in many forms, from statement sets, lowkey touches like a suede heel or bag.
