Sue Perkins’ waves goodbye to game show Insert Name Here as it's axed by BBC Two

Sue Perkins ’ game show Insert Name Here has been axed by BBC Two.

The former Great British Bake Off host has worked on the game show for more than four series which has seen three Christmas specials.

The entertainment show's format saw two teams of three players compete to answer questions based on celebrities that shared the same name.

The show’s latest series racked up just shy of a million viewers for each episode.

Its final episode received only 520,000 views.

An insider told The Sun: "Unfortunately, the ratings did begin to slide a bit for this so BBC bosses have decided to put it out of its misery."

The source added: "It had some good guests and a pair of good team captains in Josh Widdicombe and Richard Osman, but unfortunately, poor ratings mean it’s no more."

Speaking on the axe, a spokesperson from the BBC said: "We've launched a wide range of new entertainment and comedy ideas on the channel over the last few years, from I’ll Get This and The Mash Report to The Ranganation.

"There are no plans to bring Insert Name Here back, we loved it and Sue was a brilliant host, but we want to continue innovating with new entertainment on the channel."

Sue left The Great British Bake Off after it was announced the production company was moving the transmission of the show to Channel 4 from BBC1.

She released a statement where she confirmed her decision not to join the show on a new broadcaster, saying it was "quintessentially British" and belonged on BBC.

Sue told Kirsty Young on BBC Radio 4 that she never officially discussed her decision with Mel, but she knew Mel would leave with her due to their choice not to "go with the dough."

However despite the bad news, Sue still has projects she's focused on.

She's set to reunite with her on-screen friend Mel for a collab on new series Hitmen.
