Sue Neill-Fraser murder appeal on hold for 'quite some time'

The Hobart Supreme Court says it cannot guarantee Ms Neill-Fraser's appeal will be fit in.

The last-chance bid for freedom by convicted Tasmania murderer Sue Neill-Fraser has been adjourned indefinitely by the Supreme Court in Hobart.

The 62-year-old has served about seven years of her 23-year sentence for the 2009 murder of her husband Bob Chappel.

Previous appeals by the Hobart grandmother have failed.

This latest bid to win the right to another appeal was made possible by new Tasmania laws that require her to prove there is fresh and compelling evidence.

The appeal hearing was set down for four weeks starting later this month but the Supreme Court has just been told Neill-Fraser will not be ready, after solicitor and former Integrity Commission chief Barbara Etter left the case last month.

Neill-Fraser's barrister told the court they could not proceed unless instructed by solicitors and they were yet to formalise arrangements with Ms Etter's replacement.

The court heard it could be "quite some time" before the appeal would be ready to proceed and even then there was no guarantee the court would be able to fit in into their schedule of cases.
