Sue Bird defends Megan Rapinoe after Donald Trump tweets: ‘You just cannot shake that girl’

Megan Rapinoe, a star for the U.S. women’s national soccer team, has faced a lot of criticism lately for how she carries herself on the pitch and off.

President Donald Trump called her out on Twitter for her comments about refusing to visit the White House if the USA wins the Women’s World Cup — which sparked backlash from countless others on Twitter.

But, according to Rapinoe’s partner, WNBA star Sue Bird, she has been completely unfazed by it all. Bird published a post on The Players’ Tribune on Tuesday, sharing her perspective of how Rapinoe has dealt with the criticism.

“You just cannot shake that girl. She’s going to do her thing, at her own damn speed, to her own damn rhythm, and she’s going to apologize to exactly NO ONE for it. So when all the Trump business started to go down last week, I mean – the fact that Megan just seemed completely unfazed? It’s strange to say, but that was probably the only normal thing about it.”

The U.S. is set to face England in the Women’s World Cup semifinals on Tuesday, but Rapinoe will not be starting.
