Sudden spike in lockdown crime as houses burgled and cars bricked in south Manchester...police believe two men are responsible

Two men are believed to be behind a spike in crime in a south Manchester area over the space of just a few hours.

Police have issued a reminder to residents to keep their windows and doors locked after a rise in burglaries.

On Sunday morning (April 19), officers were called to reports of a burglary on Egerton Road in Fallowfield at around 6.40am.

Less than two hours later, at approximately 8.30am, another burglary happened on Lorne Road, also in Fallowfield.

Two cars in nearby Lombard Grove also had items stolen after bricks were thrown through their windows.

Police say all of the incidents are ‘most probably linked’ and are believed to have been carried out by two young men.

The men, aged in their early 20s, were seen wearing all-black clothing.

“It is believed possibly two males were involved and that these incidents are most probably linked,” GMP Fallowfield, Withington, Levenshulme & Burnage posted on social media.

“One male is believed to be black, one white... both early 20's, wearing all black clothing with black beanie hats on, and one witness states she saw them on a black racer-type bike.”

Officers said a burglary also occurred at a property on Ladybarn Lane in Fallowfield on Saturday evening (April 18) where a laptop was stolen.

They also received reports of a man peering through the window of a house on Derby Road.

“PLEASE report any suspicious behaviour. Keep all valuables away from sight and keep all windows and doors locked if you are not in the rooms,” GMP added.

“This is the first time in a while we have had such a spike in crime in a few hours so we are hoping that making you aware will deter any further opportunists from being active.”

Enquiries are ongoing.

Anyone with any information should contact police on 0161 856 6018 or 101.

Reports can also be made anonymously, via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
