Sudden death of woman, 37 still being treated as 'unexplained'

The sudden death of a 37-year-old woman two weeks ago is still being treated as "unexplained", police have confirmed.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of the woman, 37, at the address on Walton Road.

He was quizzed by detectives and released on bail pending further enquiries.

The woman and man knew each other, it's been confirmed.

A post mortem examination has been carried out, but the results were inconclusive so further tests were carried out.

A cause of death is yet to be disclosed.

Even though an arrest for murder has been made, a murder enquiry is yet to be launched.

Officers spent days at the scene of an upstairs flat on on Walton Road, above a fast food outlet, which has an entrance on the adjoining side street, Langham Street.

Nearby businesses have been asked for CCTV tapes from up to last month as investigators attempt to piece together any significant movements to and from the property within the weeks leading to the woman's sudden death.

The scene, close to Everton's Goodison stadium, was cordoned off as forensic officers gathered evidence inside and outside the flat.

Locals said police were seen in the area on the Saturday before the discovery, on Sunday, February 28.

One woman told the ECHO: "Not many people appear to know the woman who died, and I've lived in the area for 40 years.

"There are lots of people from outside Liverpool who tend to live in the properties above the shops, and because of that, they keep themselves to themselves.

"People are anxious to know if her death had some sort of criminal element to it.

"If the death is unexplained still, it seems the woman didn't have any injuries that were too obvious when she was first found.

"It's such a young age to die, 37, God bless her."

In a previous statement, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Speight, of Merseyside Police, said: “The death of the woman is currently being treated as unexplained.

"The results are the post mortem were inconclusive and further tests will now be carried out to establish the cause of death.

“A 34 year-old man was arrested and interviewed and he has now been released on bail.

“I would ask people not to speculate about the circumstances of this woman’s death while the investigation is ongoing as it can be hugely distressing for family and friends.”
