Sudden collapse leads to serious diagnosis for Summer Spellman in Corrie

Summer Spellman is set to receive a serious diagnosis in Coronation Street next week.

Viewers have seen the teen struggling in silence following the hate attack on Nina Lucas and Seb Franklin.

This week in the ITV soap Summer, played by Harriet Bibby, will be told she is suffering with stress and anxiety following Seb's brutal death.

While Seb was killed by the vile Corey Brent and his pals, Summer had been hanging around the gang shortly before their horrendous act.

Last week, when her guardian Billy Mayhew and Roy Cropper ask Nina Lucas to speak to her, Nina snaps at the teenager, pointing out the extent of her own loss and refusing to have sympathy for Summer.

Later, Nina arrived at Billy's flat to see Summer, armed with a bottle of vodka as the 16-year-old tried to revise for an exam.

The next day, Billy received a concerning phone call from Summer's school to discuss her Spanish exam, which she ended up completing in both Spanish and French.

With things not getting any better, Todd Grimshaw fears the teen might be suffering from an eating disorder when she passes out after a dizzy spell during a Father's Day lunch at the Bistro.

She keeps going to the toilet, then makes an excuse to leave to get back to her revision, leaving Billy worried.

Todd suggests it’s time he moved in properly, but when they return to the flat to find Summer has collapsed.

But Summer is later horrified to realise Billy and Todd think she’s got an eating disorder but soon she faints again.

In hospital they’re all floored as Summer is diagnosed with type one diabetes and Summer struggles to take in the news that she’ll need to manage her condition with injections.

Summer puts on a brave face and tells Billy and Todd how the doctor has shown her how to check her blood sugar and inject herself with insulin.

And the diagnosis works in scheming Todd's favour as with Summer home, Billy tells Todd that he’s changed his mind and reckons he should move in.

Will Summer be OK? And will Todd and Billy be able to make things work?
