The Sudanese Professionals Association (SFA) has organised a two-day walkout, bringing the country's capital Khartoum to a near halt, shutting major transportation hubs.
The SFA says the military government which has replaced former President Omar al-Bashir, is not negotiating in good faith.
Protesters hope it will force military leaders into a new round of negotiations to hand power to a civilian-run administration.
Al Jazeera's Imran Khan reports from Khartoum.
