The Sudanese Congress Party has resolved a debate over the possibility of nominating its president, Omar El Degeir, for the post of prime minister of the transitional period.

The party said it would not nominate any of its members to the two sovereign and ministerial councils.

The Sudanese Professionals’ Gathering, on the other hand, stressed that the Addis Ababa meetings were aimed at uniting the path of peace, and not at the allocation of political shares.

As meetings continue in the Ethiopian capital between the armed movements and the forces of the Declaration of Freedom and Change, the party said in a statement on Monday that it would not push any of its members to the sovereign and ministerial councils.

The statement stressed that the upcoming round of negotiations should be final and short, underlining the importance of uniting the forces of Freedom and Change around a vision that “fulfills the transitional civil authority’s demand without compromise.”

The party emphasized its commitment to work within the forces of change, in order to come out with a strong vision for the country and achieve one of the most important tasks of the revolution. It also accused foreign parties and elements of the ousted regime of targeting the “unity of the revolutionary forces.”

Meanwhile, the Sudanese Professional’s Gathering noted that its participation in the Addis Ababa meetings was aimed at preparing for a “comprehensive peace process” during the transitional period, denying all claims that talks in the Ethiopian capital were focused on the allocation of government seats.
