Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir dismissed on Thursday Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour from his post, in a move that has been widely expected.
The decision was taken a day after the minister declared before the parliament that his ministry was suffering from major financial difficulties.
The financial crunch had left it unable to pay employee salaries and the rent of diplomatic mission headquarters for the past seven months.
Ghandour had called on the parliament to intervene to resolve the crisis at his ministry, going even further by accusing some state officials of negligence in paying the wages of diplomats.
The Sudanese news agency SUNA said Bashir issued a Republican Decree on Thursday in which he relieved Ghandour of his duties.
The president had just returned to Sudan from Saudi Arabia where he had taken part in the 29th Arab League summit that was held in Dhahran on Sunday.
The decree did not disclose the reasons for the sacking.
