Inflation in Sudan rose again in November to 68.93% due to frequent increases in the prices of essential and basic commodities over the past six months.
Meat, onion, oil and dairy products topped the list of commodities that were subject to price increases, although these commodities are not related to the dollar fluctuations.
The price of the US dollar increased in Khartoum on Sunday, settling at 58 Sudanese pounds.
Experts and observers believe that daily increases in various essential or basic goods or construction materials and cosmetics cannot be easily curtailed, except by decisive actions that penalize the parties who cause such increases, including brokers and others.
Inflation in urban areas has risen to 62.67% compared to 61.14% in October while it has decreased to 74.22% compared to 74.58% in rural areas.
According to a press release on Sunday, the Central Bureau of Statistics said the main commodities that have significantly impacted on the rise of the inflation rate include meat, onion, oil and milk.
It added that the highest increase in the price index for goods and services in November was registered in the Red Sea State while the lowest was registered in North Kordofan State. Also, Khartoum has registered the second lowest inflation rate.
The Sudanese government seeks to achieve an average inflation rate of 19.5% by the end of the 2018 fiscal year compared to 34.1% in 2017.
