Sudan's National Umma Party announced that its leader Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi is in a stable condition and is still receiving COVID-19 treatment at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMCA) in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The party's daily press briefing indicated that al-Mahdi is undergoing a “strict protocol of treatment” as he remains in the hospital, while his companions have fully recovered.

The test results of al-Mahdi’s daughter, Maryam, came back negative.

Last week, Al-Mahdi was kept under observation in a hospital in Sudan after testing positive for the coronavirus, as 21 of his family and party members have contracted the virus.

The party later announced that he was flown by private jet to the UAE to receive treatment, accompanied by his two sons and daughters.

A number of Sudanese top officials were infected by the coronavirus, including two senior associates of Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok who tested positive for the virus.

Both the Prime Minister and the President of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, were tested and their results came back negative.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus cases exceeded 14,1555 since the virus was first detected in Sudan after the Health Ministry announced 65 new cases on Monday.

In a statement, the ministry reported a new death from the virus, bringing the nationwide death toll to 1,116.

The Ministry reiterated the importance of adhering to the new health protocols to deal with the “second wave” of infections, denying the reports that it intends to impose lockdown and close the country’s borders.

The ministry stressed the need to adhere to health measures and precautions such as maintaining social distance and wearing masks to contain the spread of the virus.
