Suchawadee ready to help Thais pull off upset victory over defending champions

Suchawadee Nildhamrong attempts a shot during a training session.

Suchawadee Nildhamrong hopes to score against the United States, the country where she lives, as the Chaba Kaew open their 2019 Fifa Women's World Cup campaign on Tuesday.

The Thai national team trained at OHL Lueven's grounds in Belgium and moved their base to France on Friday to participate in the World Cup.

Thailand have been drawn in a tough group with top seeds the United States, European giants Sweden and South American first-timers Chile.

Thai-American striker Suchawadee, affectionately known as Miranda, is keen to help the Chaba Kaew pull off an upset victory over the defending champions Americans.

"We had some tough training sessions in Belgium with fitness being the prime target for the team," said Suchawadee.

"The intensity of our training regimes has gradually been increased which is good for us. It has been a good preparation for the team ahead of the competition.

"The players are nearly 100 percent ready. However, we still have a few days left before our first game, so we will be in an even better condition for the opening match against the United States than now.

"I would like the Thai football fans to cheer and support the team whether they are in France or elsewhere.

"The first game with the United States will be important as it could set the tone for remaining games. We will try our best to make the Thai people proud.

"If I get the chance, I will try to score in the match."

Thailand manager Nualphan Lamsam said the team are well prepared after playing three warm-up matches.

"The results of the first two warm-up games did not come out well, but we did score heavily and won by a big margin against a top Belgian club in our last match, which has lifted the team's morale," said Nualphan.

"We gained lots of experience from these warm-up matches as the players are now better prepared for the first match after facing taller and stronger opponents.

"We have also polished our tactics and made the necessary adjustments.

"We are now ready and looking forward to the World Cup competition."
