'Successor to Thiago Silva' - Chelsea fans react as Etham Ampadu stars in Sheffield United win

Chelsea fans have been raving amount loan exile Ethan Ampadu.

The young Blues centre-back is spending this season on loan with Sheffield United, and up until tonight, it had been a rather miserable season for him and the Blades.

Chris Wilder's men were winless in the Premier League until they finally managed their first league win of the season tonight against Newcastle United.

Veteran striker Billy Sharp scored the all-important 17 minutes from time from the penalty spot after Newcastle had lost a man to a red card on the 45th minute.

Ampadu played a starring role in the clash as Sheffield United kept a clean sheet, producing a 'man of the match' display in the much-needed Blades win.

The Welshman has been a regular so far this season, making 12 Premier League outings, though Wilder's men have struggled defensively, conceding 29 goals in 18 games.

Ampadu looked every bit the promising prospect he is tonight, though, completing 88% of his passes, winning three tackles, making three interceptions and four clearances.

Chelsea fans are already reacting to his performance and some are even discussing the prospect of the young centre-back returning to make an impact at Chelsea, be it this season or next.

Ampadu will spend the rest of the season on loan having joined on a season-long deal, and he has an uphill task ahead of his with Sheffield United nine points from safety as things stand.

Brighton, the team one place above the drop zone, also have game in hand, so Wilder's men look certs to go down unless they can produce a resurgence of the kind not seen in the Premier League to date.
