Succession star Kieran Culkin has shared his unusual method to help Brian Cox calm down on set when he got grumpy.
The Dundee-born actor plays Logan Roy, who is known for his fiery temper, in the hit black comedy drama Succession. The HBO drama is now streaming its fourth and final season, and it's reported the Scots actor, 76, had some tense moments out of character as well.
Culkin, 40, who plays Cox's on-screen son Roman, found that boosting the actors' sugar levels helped with what calls his 'outbursts'. While he didn't go into much detail about the actors' behaviour ‘because they will definitely be misinterpreted’, he added to Esquire that it was ‘so funny to see him lose his s***’.
After noticing what helped his 'outbursts' Culkin advised a production assistant to have a banana or sandwich on stand-by, and eventually the reluctant Scots star would accept the food and calm down.
Culkin also discussed the decision to end Succession with the fourth season and revealed that when the cast and crew started production on the show they didn't know if it was the end.
“I think Brian [Cox, who plays patriarch Logan Roy] had mixed feelings about it, too,” Culkin says. “He was more like, ‘Well, good, we’ve done it.’ But I bet if you said, ‘Would you like a fifth?’ he’d want to.”
This comes after the Scots actor appeared on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss Succession. Potentially alluding to the off-screen antics, Cox admitted he was channelling media patriarch Logan Roy in real life.
“I love endings. I love getting the f*** finished with it,” Cox said regarding the end of his show, before jumping in to apologise for swearing. Fallon and the audience were in fits of laughter following his admission, before adding: “No, no, I don’t know what we can leave in, to be honest!”
“It’s what I call the Logan Roy disease, and I’ve been affected by it,” Cox quipped. “My wife’s nearly divorcing me because of it.”
