(Picture: Dave Benett)Matthew Macfadyen has spoken about how he and wife Keeley Hawes balance their acting careers with having a family.
The couple, who have been married since 2004 after meeting on the set of drama Spooks, live in south-west London and share two children plus Hawes’s son from her previous marriage.
Macfadyen, 46, spends long periods of time in America filming Succession — the hit series about the Murdoch-esque Roy family — while Hawes has recently starred in It’s A Sin and Finding Alice.
Speaking to ES Magazine, the actor said: “You just muddle through like everyone else. You just take it day by day. Can I do this? Will it work?”
Succession soon returns to screens for its third season. Macfadyen plays Tom Wambsgans, who is married to media mogul Logan Roy’s only daughter, Siobhan.
He says people are “obsessed” with the series. “I’ll be walking in a tiny square in Siena and someone goes, ‘TOM! TOM!’ It’s lovely because people aren’t that interested in me and they don’t want selfies — they’re obsessed with the show. It’s very gratifying that people love it.”
But his children aren’t among the fans. “They haven’t seen it. My daughter [Maggie] who’s 16 is like, ‘Can’t you just be in a good show, like The Vampire Diaries?’”
