Succession's Brian Cox set for Edinburgh launch of controversial memoir

Succession star Brian Cox is set to officially launch his memoir at a special live event in Edinburgh next week.

The 75-year-old Scottish actor, who currently stars as billionaire magnate Logan Roy in the hit HBO drama, will appear in front of an audience at the Capital’s Assembly Rooms for a discussion on ‘Pulling a Rabbit Out of a Hat’.

The autobiography - which charts Cox’s rise from local theatre in Dundee to Hollywood superstardom - has already turned heads thanks to its acerbic shots at big name stars including Johnny Depp and Quentin Tarantino.

According to the listing, the event, which has already sold out the London Palladium, promises a “rags-to-riches life story like no other...rich in emotion and meaning, with plenty of laughs along the way.”

However, Cox also doesn’t miss when it comes to his thoughts on some of Hollywood’s current royalty.

In an excerpt published by the Big Issue, the actor wrote of turning down a part in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, adding Depp was “overblown and overrated”. He continues: “I mean, Edward Scissorhands. Let’s face it, if you come on with hands like that and pale, scarred-face make-up, you don’t have to do anything. And he didn’t. And subsequently, he’s done even less.”

Glimmer Man co-star Steven Seagal, actor Michael Caine and director Tarantino also come in for criticism, with Cox claiming he “walked out” of Pulp Fiction, branding it “style where there should be substance.”

Whether Cox plans a cheeky takeover bid of Scottish Premiership side Hearts on his visit to the city remains unconfirmed.

In season two of the show, which follows the various backstabbing and underhand dealings of Waystar Royco, Roman Roy, played by Kieran Culkin, buys the Jambos in an effort to impress Logan, only to awkwardly discover that his billionaire dad is a fan of Capital rivals Hibernian.

The Tyencastle side recently released limited edition shirts bearing the fictional company name as part of a tie in with Now TV to mark the show's return for a third series.

Tickets for the event at the Assembly Rooms on Tuesday, November 2 are available here.
