Successful GCSE students could win a small fortune on results day

Successful GCSE students are likely to gain £593 on average for a string of straight A* grades.

A survey of 1,500 parents revealed nine out of 10 were planning to reward their children for good grades - despite the fact only 27 per cent of them were rewarded themselves when they took their exams at school.

The rewards go right down the results scale with parents handing out £55.03 on average for an F grade - suggesting they value effort as well as attainment.

In terms of presents, it adds, mums were more likely to reward their children by taking them out for a meal - while dads would opt for a technology-based gift.

The survey was carried out by Currys PC World.
