Subzero temperatures to hit Merseyside as Met Office warns of icy conditions

Christmas is now only around 10 days away, so it should come as no surprise that weather conditions are set to become much colder and icier.

Gritters and snow ploughs were out this evening on the M62, amongst others. With temperatures close to freezing on Saturday night - when many people were out celebrating their Christmas parties - it felt cold and windy, with possible icy patches and a minimum temperature of zero degrees.

But due to the wind chill, it will feel more like minus two at times.

Weather warnings of ice for parts of the North West (Met Office)

The Met Office said Sunday would start off clear and bright but it remain blustery, with a few showers settling in towards the evening.

But they have issued warnings of ice for other parts of the North West, so take care on the roads if you are heading out.

They said: "Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times and icy surfaces may make accidents and falls more likely."

The outlook for the start of the week is that it will be mostly dry and bright, with a few showers possible on Monday.

But it will feel cold throughout with frosts overnight and freezing fog as the winds ease.
