Subway is now selling vegan Meatball Marinara subs

Subway is now offering a plant-based alternative to their popular Meatball Marinara sub.

But vegans, veggies and flexitarians can only get their laughing gear around the sandwiches in Manchester in Birmingham at the moment.

The sandwiches are currently part of a trial in the UK but the should be rolled out nationwide next year, Manchester Evening News report.

The meat-free version of the sandwich was originally trialled in the US, and proved a huge hit with both vegetarians and vegans.

The US version wasn't entirely vegan, as it had cheese on top, but as with all Subway sandwiches customers were able to opt out of having cheese - making for a vegan meal.

It's yet to be confirmed whether or not Subway UK will be offering dairy-free cheese, and Manchester Evening news has asked the brand for confirmation.

A Subway spokesperson told the M.E.N: "We are currently trialling an exciting new vegan product, our Meatless Meatball Marinara, in a number of stores across the UK.

"We are hoping to introduce these nationwide early next year, so keep your eyes peeled and we'll let you know once we have more information!

We have contacted Subway with a request to find out which stores will be selling the meat-free subs, though Subway is yet to respond.

For now, customers are advised to ring their local Subway branch in advance to confirm whether or not the meatless marinaras will be available.
