A Canberran man allegedly caught with "substantial quantities of drugs" after attempting to evade police in a stolen car has fronted court.
The 32-year-old Dickson man faced ACT Magistrates Court via videolink on Sunday morning, a day after he was arrested when police seized "substantial quantities of drugs" from a Dickson apartment complex.
Australian Federal Police alleged they ordered the driver of a stolen Toyota to stop about 2am on Saturday, before the driver drove away at speed.
After keeping the vehicle in sight, police alleged the driver was apprehended attempting to enter an apartment complex car park in Dickson.
Police said searches uncovered nearly 40 grams of methamphetamine - worth an estimated $35,000 on the street - along with more than $20,000 in cash, drug paraphernalia, a knife, and 700 millilitres of a liquid police suspected was GHB.
Police then obtained a warrant to search an apartment at the Hawdon place complex, were they said a "substantial" amount of drugs was uncovered.
The man was charged with trafficking in a controlled drug other than cannabis, dealing with the proceeds of crime, disqualified driving, driving a stolen motor vehicle, furious driving and failing to stop.
He was not granted bail, and remanded in custody until his next court appearance in December.
Police expected to lay further charges against the man and another person.
