Subscribing to the EV revolution is made easier

MORE motorists can now get behind the wheel of an electric vehicle thanks to the growing trend of subscription services.

A number of private companies and manufacturers are offering the flexible and comprehensive set-up that’s designed to remove barriers to getting an EV.

And bosses at Onto, the UK’s largest electric car subscription service, are keen to share with Scots drivers how their system operates.

It works a bit like Apple Music or Netflix that allow you to stream your favourite tunes or shows. Only in this case, your account gives you access to the latest electric cars.

While Onto is aiming to attract long-term customers, it enables them to swap models to suit changing lifestyles.

For example, subscribers can try a Tesla Model 3 for six months but then substitute it for an Audi E-Tron if they are looking for a more spacious car.

And the all-inclusive fee takes the hassle out of running an EV as it includes insurance, servicing and maintenance, 1000 miles a month, as well as free access to 12,000 public charge points.

The firm’s vehicles are also supplied with a standard three-pin domestic charger and a Type 2 cable for more rapid rejuicing of the car’s battery pack.

Onto’s all-inclusive monthly subscription service starts from just £339 per month for a VW e-up! and has a choice of 18 models from nine manufacturers including Citroen, Hyundai and Jaguar to suit all budgets.

For example, the Renault Zoe ZE50 Iconic city car costs just £389 monthly, the Peugeot e-2008 GT crossover comes in at £539 and the upmarket Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus will set you back £1099.

There is also no deposit to pay – which, along with the eco-friendly benefits, helps to explain why Onto has been doubling in size every six months since it was founded in 2017.

Onto boss Rob Jolly said: “Interest in subscription services continues to grow alongside demand for electric vehicles. There were 190,000 battery-electric cars registered in 2021, 76 per cent higher than 2020 – with more people looking for ways to make the switch.

“Leasing often requires a large upfront payment and a fixed, long-term commitment, so Onto offers people a simple alternative to ownership with the flexibility of a subscription that fits their lifestyle.

“And customers get access to the latest electric cars on the market with the ability to swap between them should they choose to.

“Onto’s all-inclusive subscription service removes all the hassle that comes from owning a car and provides consumers with an accessible way to join the electric revolution.”
