Subs Bench meets the Bristol Rovers defender who went on to face some of the world's best

This week, Subs Bench caught up with a former Bristol Rovers defender who played more that 100 games before a successful stint in the United States.

Richard Latham and Nigel Turner sat down with former Gas centre-back Graham Day.

Bristol-born Day played 130 times in the blue and white quarters across a five-year stint in the 1970s, scoring once in the process.

The 66-year-old then crossed the Atlantic to rack up 135 appearances for Portland Timbers in the North American Soccer League, scoring 11 goals for the Oregon outfit.

Day told Subs Bench: "(I am a) very lucky chap. Got noticed at Bristol St George at the age of something like 16 and I gradually progressed from there, playing in good sides.

"It always helps if you're an average player in good sides. It looks better.

"At 19, Don Megson signed me and it went from there."
