Subs Bench meets former Bristol City and Paris St Germain winger Jantzen Derrick

This week, Subs Bench caught up with former Bristol City winger Jantzen Derrick.

Derrick, who also played for Mansfield Town and Paris St Germain in the 1960s and 1970s, made over 250 appearances for the Robins and is fondly remembered as a tricky wide man.

He signed for Bristol City when he was 15 as an apprentice and made his debut at 16 in 1959.

And as part of the chat, Derrick recalls playing with Terry Venables for England schoolboys and City legend John Ateyo.

He also recalls the origin behind his unusual name. He told Subs Bench: "My mum was with her sister in a sport shop and was carrying me at the time.

"She looked a pair of swimming trunks and she saw the name Jantzen.

"Jantzen is a big brand in America for swim wear and that's how the name derived. So she could have called me Speedo!"
