Subnautica 2 System Requirements: Minimum, Recommended and Ultra++

Subnautica 2 is one of the most anticipated survival games in years, plunging players into a vast alien ocean filled with mystery and danger. Before you suit up and dive in, you’ll want to make sure your PC can handle it. Here’s the complete breakdown of Subnautica 2‘s system requirements across all four tiers.

Subnautica 2 Minimum System Requirements

If you’re on an older build, you can still get into the water, just don’t expect the highest visual fidelity. The minimum specs target 1080p at Low settings with 30 FPS, which is playable but not ideal for hardcore gamers.

  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1660 / AMD RX 5500XT
  • CPU: Intel i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600
  • RAM: 12 GB
  • GPU VRAM: 6 GB
  • OS: Windows 10/11
Could Upscaling make Subnautica 2 easier to run?

According to Unknown Worlds, Subnautica 2’s Early Access will launch with DLSS and TSR upscaling included, but the requirements sheet does not account for these (likely due to the absence of DLSS on the 1660). If you really want to run the game on an older rig, you can try turning the render resolution down for TSR, though results may vary.

Recommended System Requirements

This is the sweet spot to which the developers will likely be optimizing the game to. The recommended tier targets 1440p at Medium settings with a smoother 60 FPS, delivering a great experience without needing top-of-the-line hardware. So if you run a 1080p monitor, you can probably bump the settings up to High without lowering your FPS.

  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3070 / AMD RX 6700XT
  • CPU: Intel i7-13700 / AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • GPU VRAM: 8 GB
  • OS: Windows 11

Subnautica 2 Ultra and Ultra++ Hardware Requirements

For those who want to experience Subnautica 2 in its full visual glory, the Ultra and Ultra++ tiers push the game to its limits, demanding serious hardware in return for stunning underwater visuals at 1440p and 4K.

Hardware Ultra Ultra++
GPU RTX 4070 / RX 6900XT RTX 5070Ti / RX 7900XTX
CPU i7-13700 / R7 7700X i9-14900K / R9 7900X3D
RAM 32 GB 32 GB
VRAM 12 GB 16 GB
Target 1440p / High / 60 FPS 4K / High / 60 FPS

Notably the devs specified a whopping 32GB RAM requirement, going against the usual 16GB that most games require. With the current hyper-inflation in the RAM market, that number might be hard to hit even for Ultra-tier builds.

Can your PC run Subnautica 2?

At the base level, if you are rocking a GTX 1660 or RX 5500XT you are good to dive in. And for the receommended experience an RTX 3070-class GPU paired with any modern CPU is all you need. Subnautica 2 launches in Early Access, so these specs may be refined as Unknown Worlds continues to optimize the game post-launch. Keep an eye on the official Steam page for updates.
