Subaru Ireland urgently recalls 2,500 cars from Irish market due safety issue

Subaru is recalling 2,500 cars on the Irish market due to a safety issue.

Customers are being warned about a fault in the gas generator of an airbag which could cause injury to a passenger when triggered.

A range of the company's vehicles, produced between 2004 and 2014, are affected by the recall.

A statement said: "Subaru Ireland Limited is carrying out a voluntary recall of certain Subaru passenger vehicles.

"A safety issue has been identified, whereby it is possible that there is a defect in the gas generator of the passenger airbag which may lead to the uncontrolled release of loose metal fragments when the airbag is triggered. This can cause injury to passengers."

The models subject to the caution are Impreza including WRX & STi, Legacy & Outback, Tribeca and Forester.

The Competition and Consumers Protection Commission said Subaru will be writing directly to owners affected by the warning.

Consumers are to be told to bring their vehicles to their nearest Subaru dealers, where the necessary repairs will take place.

Subaru Ireland can reached by calling 01-4033969 or 1850585858.
