Subaru driver 'runs from police' after VW Golf smashed into tree on Queens Drive

A suspected drink driver tried to run away from police after a serious smash saw a motorist careering into a tree.

The incident happened just after 1am on Saturday when a blue Subaru Legacy was in collision with a grey VW Golf.

It happened at the junction of Muirhead Avenue and Queens Drive in West Derby.

The Subaru hit the Golf before the VW collided with a tree, causing slight injuries to the driver and a passenger.

Four ambulances and three fire engines attended the scene.

A police spokesman said the Subaru was driven away from the scene along Queens Drive, and after an officer on patrol spotted the damage to the vehicle, he indicated for the driver to pull over.

The driver stopped and made off on foot from the vehicle, but following a brief pursuit he was detained nearby.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and failing to stop after a collision.

He has been taken to a police station to be interviewed.

Anyone who witnessed any part of the incident, or captured dashcam footage, is asked to DM @MerPolCC or call Crimestoppers on 08000 555 111.
