CINCINNATI _ The Cardinals survived six walks and four stolen bases over the first eight innings Friday night. Their relievers worked out of two consecutive bases-loaded spots in the seventh and the eighth.
But a seventh walk led to yet another bases-loaded spot in the ninth and Seung Hwan Oh couldn't wriggle out of this one. With one out and the Cardinals' infield playing in, Eugenio Suarez singled through the legs of Brandon Phillips, running at second, and Zack Cozart, who had drawn the leadoff walk, scored the winning run as the Reds ran off with a 3-2 win over the Cardinals, who wasted a sharp start by rookie Alex Reyes.
Reyes worked five scoreless innings before allowing two runs in the sixth but he struck out seven and walked only two in throwing 103 pitches.
Randal Grichuk and Yadier Molina homered for the Cardinals' two runs as they extended their homer streak to 21 straight games. The Reds stranded 14 before finally capitalizing in the ninth.
