Style with Demelza de Burca: Meghan Markle's show-stopping regal purple is still on trend

As questions mount about her future in the British monarchy, Meghan Markle made a show-stopping style statement in regal purple this week.

The 38-year-old was all smiles as she attended an event at the Royal Albert Hall, her first public appearance after a documentary where she admitted public scrutiny had left her feeling “vulnerable”.

The colour purple has been associated with members of the royal family for centuries.

Its significance stems from the cost of the dye originally used to produce it.

The colour purple was so precious to Queen Elizabeth I that the Tudor ruler banned anyone other than close royal family members from wearing it.

Meghan’s strong style statement was actually a high street Aritzia recycled dress, a nod to her mission to promote environmental issues and climate change.

The former actress previously wore last January in Birkenhead, when she was pregnant with son Archie who is now five months old.

Then, the mother-to-be wore it underneath a cherry red coat by another Canadian label, Sentaler.
Purple is big news again for AW19 with every hue from Ultra Violet to Lilac, mallow, and lavender paraded down the runways.
