Style on Sunday: Summer's cooling looks to make dressing in a heatwave easy

Dressing for the summer gets us all hot and bothered – so we’ve rounded up some heatwave heroes to take the stress out of those sweaty moments.

As the mercury soars and Ireland basks in high temperatures, the warm weather can be a bit of a fashion dilemma for many.

Whether it’s struggling with office wear or finding an outfit that is flattering and airy, staying sartorially cool in a heatwave can seem impossible.

But fret not, here are a few styling tips for those sticky wardrobe situations.

Linen and cotton are simply the best while leather, polyester and rayon are to be avoided at all costs.

The revived material was all over the SS19 catwalks, as seen at Zimmerman and Working Girl skirt suits at Tibi.

It also boasts a legion of celebrity devotees including Kate Moss, Jennifer Aniston, and Elle Fanning.

We love Mango’s pleats detail linen-blend dress, a steal at just €29.99.

Light colours, such as white and subtle pastel shades, are the best at keeping you cool. But UV rays can still easily penetrate light fabrics so be sure to apply sun cream underneath.

Floaty dresses in pretty colours are the ultimate summer go-to. For something a little special at cocktail hour, Zara’s pale yellow maxi dress (€19.99) is a perfect choice for hot summer evening meals and parties.

Go all-out for an all-in-one this season such as V by Very’s utility playsuit €50, available at Littlewoods Ireland.

From full blooms to bold hues, a midi dress continues to be a style hero this summer and is the easiest way to tackle smart summer dressing.

Perfect for everything from meetings with the boss to out-of-office dates, the right midi-dress will work overtime for your summer wardrobe.

Some of our favourites this season include V by Very’s cobalt floral wrap dress (€48), Topshop’s floral ruffle midi dress, €68, and a puff sleeve dress (€89, & Other Stories).

A longer-length short with a flattering high waist is absolutely acceptable for most office environments.

Oversized blazers paired with co-ordinating loose-fit tailored shorts are this summer’s power suit.

Check out Zara’s textured weave Bermuda shorts (€19.99). We also love Reiss’ Haya shorts in their bold, yellow hue that are tailored to a flattering, slim-fit silhouette.
