This week, in an ode to New York fashion week, we present Chloë Sevigny, the queen of offbeat American cool. Aside from the sudden blunt haircut – always a good way to usher in a new decade – she’s showing some fine spring layers, in tune with the new pared-back fashion mood. Cue a neat grey silk blouse worn with a cropped-sleeved, khaki jacket with contrasting off- yellow. It should be pointed out that the bowling shoes are not a deliberate point – Sevigny was at Lucky Strikes Lanes and Lounge – though with classic slim-leg jeans they sort of work, huh? The animal-print belt and slash of coral-red lipstick are two updates to replicate on the cheap. Take this cotton/silk polka dot one from Reiss in classic navy and cream: it slots brilliantly into working and weekend looks. Marni showed spots on their catwalk, making this of the moment, a snappy alternative to Breton stripes. £79, reiss.co.uk Photograph: Jamie/PRTreat of the week Who wouldn’t benefit from a coat of nail lacquer in a shade of Hollywood Gold? Thankfully, Michael Kors has created a new range of “Very Hollywood” beauty products for Estée Lauder. They split into two camps: “Bel Air Beige” (beige, coral and shimmery peach) and “Rodeo Pink” (vibrant raspberry), so choose yours, then start planning your at-home Baftas/Oscar party. £12, esteelauder.co.uk Photograph: PR
Weirdly wonderful With drum rolls a go-go, this page would like to welcome into our fashion vernacular the “summer boot”. It’s a slightly weird but thoroughly cool footwear option. Both Balenciaga and Chloé – two labels that define Parisian fabulousness – featured them on their catwalks. This swish version by Cacharel is thus bang on with a nifty tan peep-toe and an architectural Perspex heel. Warning: don’t wear with socks. £400, matchesfashion.com Photograph: PRMen’s find of the week One day soon, the male of the species will not wear hideous square-toed shoe beasts or terrible loafers because, thankfully, the high street is getting good at men’s footwear. Marks & Spencer’s ongoing collaboration with designer Jsen Wintle has produced this slick pair of shoes for less than £60. A mix of matte and patent leather, they could easily work for two key menswear occasions: smart-politician-on-the-campaign-trail or actor-at-an-awards-bash. £59.50, marksandspencer.com Photograph: PR
