STV weatherman Sean Batty surprises his "biggest fan" at east end nursery

STV weatherman Sean Batty gave his "biggest fan" his wish come true with a surprise visit to his nursery.

Four-year-old Munro Carr met his hero today at Parkhead Community Nursery in Glasgow’s east end – and the heartwarming moment was captured on video.

Munro's parents wrote to the presenter and told him their son, who has autism, is "obsessed with the weather" and watches his forecasts every day.

So Mr Batty rocked up to the nursery to give the youngster a weather map he made himself – similar to the one he had as a young boy.

He said: “I absolutely love doing stuff like this and it was so nice to surprise Munro and see his reaction.

“During lockdown, I’ve really got into woodwork, so I made him his very own weather map and symbols. I had a weather map with stick-on symbols when I was a kid, and things like that helped me get to where I am today.

“Hopefully Munro will get good practice with his own weather map, and I’m sure he’ll be bringing sunshine to our screens in the future.”

Dad Grant Carr said: “For us as a family, I kind of see [autism] as a gift for [Munro] because he’s just so clever at stuff, like maths and space and the weather.

“Every day he just amazes everyone, and he’s made me very proud today.”

Nikki Black, headteacher at Parkhead Community Nursery, said: “We always look at this area being classed as a ‘deprivation area’ – but for us, it’s a thriving area.

“We want our children to have the same opportunities as children all over Scotland and all over Glasgow, so it was really nice to help make someone’s dream come true.”

You can watch Sean every weekday evening on the STV News at Six.
