STV moves flagship current affairs show to prime time slot

Scotland Tonight , STV's news and current affairs programme, will move to a peak 7.30pm slot each Thursday in the New Year.

The show airs at 10.40pm on Monday to Thursday but from January the Thursday programme will move to the earlier evening position.

It will continue to be fronted by John MacKay and Rona Dougall, with STV’s reporters bringing depth and context to the stories of the day.

This week marks the show’s eight-year anniversary and the STV team are delighted Scotland Tonight is the most watched Scottish current affairs TV programme.

Bobby Hain, managing director, Broadcast at STV, said: “There’s never been a better or more relevant time to put a current affairs show into prime time.  Scotland Tonight is so much more than a politics show - it’s current affairs in its widest sense, covering business, art, culture, sport and much more.  We very much hope that this high profile slot will become appointment-to-view television on a Thursday evening.''
