Donald Trump likes to think and tell everyone that he is close friends with all the leaders of the world. However, recent events suggest that this belief may be more of a delusion than a reality.
Since becoming president for a second term this year, Donald Trump has made a series of poor decisions that have affected Americans and people from other countries. Nations such as Canada, Brazil, and China have been directly impacted by Trump’s aggressive tariffs, which have steadily increased to record levels. Among these countries, Trump’s tariff policies have been particularly harsh towards China, with whom he has been engaged in a long-standing trade war. This trade conflict has led to China nearly stopping its imports of soybeans and beef from the United States, causing distress among soybean farmers and cattle ranchers. Not only that, but China is also attempting to establish new trade routes with other nations, which could mean permanent doom for Americans involved in these economies.
Recently, as the trade wars (though it’s hard to call it a war when only one side is attacking) between the United States and China continue, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping met in Busan for discussions. A video from their meeting is currently going viral on social media, where the Chinese President appears visibly unfazed by Trump’s presence while he insists that they share a friendly “relationship.” After watching the video, many people are labelling Trump an “embarrassment,” and criticising him for humiliating himself and, by extension, America in front of the world.
One person on X (previously Twitter) discussing the incident wrote:
“Notice how Xi leans away from Trump, as if he’s afraid of catching something contagious, lol. No, President Xi, as far as we know, stupidity is not contagious unless you’re a MAGA cultist.”
Another person wrote:
“Trump’s idea of a “great relationship” with Xi is begging for a pat on the head like a desperate lapdog, meanwhile, America’s trade deficits just got a new leash.”
Several others shared similar sentiments and poked fun at Donald Trump. I personally cannot wait for Trump to return to America and continue his China-bashing adventures because that’s when we get to see how he truly feels about China and its leader. I am not buying whatever friendship facade Trump is putting up right now.
