A "stupid" son has been locked up after asking his mum to make him a sandwich.
David McGowan was prohibited from contacting his mother after being handed a suspended prison sentence and restraining order for stalking her.
But in a baffling breach of his conditions, the 33-year-old called police to inform them he was going to his mum's house before phoning to ask her to make him a sandwich.
She agreed, with police arriving shortly after and arresting the defendant, Chronicle Live reports.
McGowan, of Chestnut Avenue, Blyth, Northumberland, appeared before Newcastle Crown Court where he was jailed for seven months.
The court heard McGowan was given a five month suspended prison sentence and a seven year restraining order on October 22 last year for stalking his mum.
He had made 50 calls to her in ten hours and sent text threats in a dispute over money.
But on November 29, while police were looking for him for something else, he rang them saying he was going to his mum's.
John Crawford, prosecuting, said: "He called his mother asking her to make him a sandwich.
"She told him he should not be coming and he said he had told the police he was going to be there.
"He was drunk but there were no other issues and she did give him a sandwich."
McGowan, who has 11 previous convictions, pleaded guilty to breaching the restraining order and breaching the suspended sentence.
He was jailed for seven months but due to time he previously spend on an electronic curfew, he is likely to be released immediately.
The court heard he had already begun to fail to comply with the suspended sentence by the time he committed the new offence.
Judge Tim Gittins told him: "It was relatively minor in the scheme of things but that has to be seen in the context of the circumstances which led to the restraining order being made.
"It's yet another incident causing your mother concern because of how worn down she was by your behaviour."
McGowan was warned that the restraining order not to contact his mum remains in place until October 2028.
Richard Bloomfield, defending, said: "It's a rather stupid breach.
"He went to his mother's to have a sandwich before he was arrested.
"He has served, pretty much, a 25 week sentence."
