Pundits are split on Ian Poveda's refusal to go down for a penalty in Leeds United's defeat at Chelsea.
The Whites lost 3-1 at Stamford Bridge but the key incident occurred with the score at 2-1.
Substitute Poveda drifted into the Chelsea box, shook off the challenge of Ben Chilwell and fired a shot into the hands of Edouard Mendy.
Replays showed that the England defender made contact with the Leeds winger, who stayed on his feet and regained his balance before shooting.
Had the 20-year-old gone down, a VAR decision may well have seen Leeds awarded a penalty which could have seem them level the score ahead of the closing stages.
Here is what a selection of pundits have said:
Michael Owen
"He's a very honest player. The manager in the dressing room would be thinking. ’I have just watched Mo Salah, I have watched people like Grealish, Danny Welbeck last week. I have watched all these players, Sterling today, they have got half the touch you [Poveda] have got’.
“That is as much if not more than I have seen in the past couple of weeks times five.
"Honesty gets you nowhere and it cannot be like that. I admire the lad for staying on his feet and I think he should stay on his feet. And I don’t think you should be given a penalty for that.
“I do think we need to get rid of this tiny little touch and someone going down. Every single week – We need to rid ourselves of this.
Alan Smith
"You could argue there was a foul, but Poveda didn't go down. But Chilwell did catch him on the boot.
"It was a bit like the Brighton penalty against Liverpool, with a clash of the boots."
Tim Cahill
"This is where you’ve got to give footballers credit.
"For me, in this instance, this is what all footballers should do.
"They’ll be encouraged to go down but it’s up to VAR because it’s just not right. Poveda deserves a lot of credit, he’s Bielsa’s player and he’s making players stay on their feet.
"It’s a great example of the way the game should be played."
Danny Murphy
"I agree but some people would say he’s stupid.
"He’s cost his team a point as he knows he could go down and it would be a penalty at the moment with the rules being what they are."
