Stunning waterfalls and gold mine trail that's worth the drive from Liverpool

Liverpool is a city with beautiful sights, iconic buildings and much more but sometimes you just want to get away from it all and drive further afield.

The Waterfalls and Goldmines Trail at Coed y Brenin is stunning walk which lets visitors pass by relics of a gunpowder factory, a gold mine and many breathtaking waterfalls.

The trail is made up of two routes depending on what walkers wish to see, but both follow a forest track along the river Mawddach.

It is expected the walk takes visitors around two and a half hours to complete, but if you visit when the weather is dry there are plenty of picnic spots along the route meaning you could make a whole day of it.

Walkers are able to follow the forest road north along the river Mawddach in a steep-sided valley surrounded by big trees, towards the waterfalls. Before following the waymarkers along the east side of the river and cross the timber bridge back to the car park.

The trail is nearly all on forest tracks with one section of very rough private track before the waterfall and one short but steep climb after leaving them.
