Stunning Scottish castle where Mary Queen of Scots spent last night of freedom goes up for sale

With its soaring turrets, pristine white walls and incredible views, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the stunning Fa'side Castle must be home to royalty.

Though the beautiful 14th Century holding did once play host to one of Scotland's most famous queens, it's now a beautiful country house furnished with striking traditional features and modern amenities.

The former home of the Fawsyde family, the castle was the site of several battles and even played host to Mary Queen of Scots the night before her eventual surrender and capture at the battle of Carberry Hill.

The castle comes with six luxurious bedrooms (SquareFoot)

It is even said that she changed into a plain skirt, leaving all of her finery in the care of the castle's owners.

Set within a 2.35 acre estate in Tranent, which is within easy travelling distance of the capital, the castle has panoramic views over the Firth of Forth and out towards the Lammermuir Hills, and has been placed on the market for offers over £1.7m.

Filled with historic features such as flagstone flooring, beamed ceilings and stone stairwells, which are reflective of its rich past, the impressive site offers six bedrooms, a luxurious open plan kitchen and dining area and even its own library.

It also features an immaculate open kitchen with traditional features (SquareFoot)

If that doesn't entice you, then perhaps the thought of having no less than three baths with which to indulge in

The castle also boasts a courtyard, well maintained lawn and comes with a further two properties found within a beautifully converted 17th century barn.

Director Jamie Macnab describes the castle as a perfect example of a traditional site that's been updated for modern living, he said: "Fa'side Castle is one of the most considered examples of how to make an historic building dating from the Middle Ages work as a home fit for contemporary life.

"The pitch perfect colour scheme and careful approach to modernisation have resulted in a truly outstanding property that is entirely in keeping with its extraordinary heritage.

"The East Lothian location, just ten miles from Edinburgh city centre, makes it accessible in spite of its secluded feel, and the views over the Firth of Forth and surrounding countryside are quite breath taking."
