Stunning rainbow brightens up grey skies ahead of Pride weekend in Manchester

A stunning rainbow appeared across the skies of Manchester ahead of Pride weekend.

Rain showers and sunny spells resulted in the amazing display on Friday evening.

The rainbow was spotted across Greater Manchester, with dozens of M.E.N readers sharing their pictures.

We've put together a gallery of your rainbow snaps.

Manchester Pride had been due to go ahead this weekend but was cancelled earlier in the year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Manchester Pride organisers have put together a programme of virtual events to encourage people to celebrate at home instead.

On Saturday, viewers can tune in to performances from Pixie Lott, Louise Redknapp, Bright Light Bright Light, Gok Wan and Jodie Harsh, along with Kelli-Leigh, Manchester Queens, House Gospel Choir, Karen Harding, Husk and many more.

Festival fans can also relive highlights from years gone by, with screenings of sets by Years & Years, Rita Ora and Mel C.

You can watch from 1pm here, or at unitedwestream.co.uk.

A pre-recorded virtual parade will also be screened on the Manchester Pride website on Saturday, and Monday's emotional candelit vigil will also be streamed from Sackville Gardens, reflecting and remembering the lives lost to AIDS and the people still suffering persecution for their sexuality or identity.

Youth Pride MCR is also back on Sunday in a new virtual format via the Manchester Pride website

Aimed at LGBTQ+ teenagers aged 14 and over, the online programme will include a Drag Queen Story Time read by Drag SOS star Anna Phylactic, as well as a bake-along brunch for all the family, as well as drag makeup tutorials, vogue dance classes and more.

A whole host of alternative virtual events will also be held by LGBTQ+ organisations across the city. We've rounded them up here.
