Stunning photos from LightNight Liverpool 2021 as city puts on a beautiful show

LightNight Liverpool 2021 kicked off this evening, bringing a dazzling array of events, performances, exhibitions, games and more to the city centre.

LightNight Liverpool is a popular annual one-day festival in the city but last year's event was forced to be an online only affair due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But the event returned in spectacular form this year - though some of today's programme was still web-based for those not quite ready to venture out.

The self-led trail saw LightNight spectators impressed by the artistic, creative and cultural offerings on display throughout the city.

Mass participation art installation Peace Doves, created by renowned sculptor and artist Peter Walker, opened to the public at the iconic Liverpool Cathedral. It features around 18,000 paper doves suspended on 15.5 miles of ribbon from the roof of the Cathedral, accompanied by a soundscape from composer David Harper.

High street favourite Lush played host to a live drag cabaret featuring Scouse singing sensation Phillipa McKrackin, aka Filla Crack, and some of the UK's most stunning drag performers.

City centre wide contemporary art festival Liverpool Biennial launched, allowing visitors to explore the former Lewis' department store, among other sites, while the Black-E became the temporary home of the circus, showcasing a range of performances, workshops and charleston sessions.

The event began at 5pm and runs until midnight at some venues.
