Stunning NHS Spitfire fly past as plane thanking front line heroes soars over UK

It's time to look to the skies as the NHS Spitfire has begun its fly past over the UK to honour front line heroes.

The plane is soaring above NHS hospitals on Saturday as mark of thanks to NHS and key worker heroes who have been toiling in the coronavirus fight.

It can be seen travelling across England from 11am to nearly 5pm, with 'Thank U NHS' painted beneath its wings.

The blue Spitfire PL983 ‘L’ has also been emblazoned with the names of 80,000 NHS heroes, family members, neighbours and friends nominated by members of the public.

The Spitfire flies by the Goodwood Festival at Goodwood Racecourse, Chichester (PA)

The Spitfire had previously been flown on Thursdays during lockdown to thank key workers.

Hospital staff have been craning their necks to spot the plane as it flew over today.

It has been sighted by delighted staff as it winged its way over Southend University Hospital in Essex, and Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Hospitals in Kent.
