Stunning new Shankly street mural set to greet Liverpool fans on Anfield return this Saturday

A stunning new mural of Liverpool FC icon Bill Shankly will greet Reds fans when they flock back to the stadium this weekend.

Self-taught street artist John Culshaw has spent this week spray painting a drawing of the legendary former manager, depicting him holding a red Liverpool scarf on side of the famous Park Pub.

The mural will be ready in time to greet Liverpool fans returning to Anfield to watch the Reds take on Newcastle in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off following the international break.

It says "The Park" which is the pub it is painted on, a few steps from the ground.

Artist John lost his arm as a nine-year-old when he was hit by a speeding car.

John was catapulted through the windscreen of the car and suffered appalling injuries.

But he has not let that stop him building up an impressive portfolio of stunning murals in the city.

The artist, a die-hard Liverpool fan, has created other striking murals including a recent painting of Liverpool's current manager Jurgen Klopp outside Klopp's Guest Rooms in Anfield.

After John's accident, the Page Moss lad became a painter and decorator, and then a street artist.

He has finished a mural in Huyton, on the Bluebell estate, where both Steven Gerrard and Evertonian Peter Reid grew up.

The Shankly depiction joins a growing list of other LFC murals around the city including the three-storey tall image of Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold emblazoned on a home at the corner of Sybil Street and Anfield Road.

The attraction has been hugely popular with Liverpool fans who stop to have a selfie taken near the striking image of the young Scouser.

There is a quote next to the image which reads: "I'm just a normal lad from Liverpool whose dream has just come true."

Other murals in the city include one of the Beatles on the side of a terraced house in Croxteth Avenue, Seaforth, not far from where the Beatles played at Litherland Town Hall and the Lathom.

There is also a renowned Martin Luther King mural in New Brighton, quoting the lyrics from the smash U2 anthem Pride.
