Factory-built pre-made homes are about to come to Wirral, after gaining council approval this week.
The modular nature of the homes means would-be tenants can customise their future house and have it built to a bespoke design.
The total project will see 347 homes built, but permission granted this week covers the first phase of 30 properties.
The £55m joint venture of Peel L&P and Urban Splash will see the homes built on East Float, within Wirral Waters .
Planning consent includes the customisable Town House and the first Row House homes, the newest product in Urban Splash’s portfolio.
Row House has been designed by Liverpool-based architects Shedkm and will be unveiled to the market in 2020.
Richard Mawdsley, director of development at Peel L&P, said: "East Float will be a huge draw for those wanting to take advantage of the very latest in modular housing design and I am delighted that the first wave of this development has now been approved by Wirral Council .
"It's an exciting start for this area of the development, which will be delivered in phases.
“This project will not only provide much-needed housing for the area but it will transform the brownfield site into a highly contemporary, internationally recognised waterside residential quarter for families, individuals and couples alike."
The modular homes are just one part of the Wirral Waters plan.
There are four other projects set to be completed by 2024.
The four projects are:
1. No 1 Tower Road South - A 25,000 square feet office block for which planning permission was granted on July 1 last year.
2. The Legacy Project - A £90 million scheme for 500 homes, 100 of which will be affordable homes. That means they will be on the market for 20% less than the market rate in the local area.
3. Egerton Village - A £9 million amenity and arts hub, set to cater for the eating and drinking needs of local workers and become a cultural hub within Wirral Waters.
Planning permission was granted on August 30 last year, but Peel are still trying to land “anchor tenants” for the scheme.
4. Belong Dementia Care Village - A £16 million “state of the art” care facility with homes for over 100 people. Peel said the village will create 150 jobs.
