A stunning murmuration was captured in the skies above Laois on Thursday as the birds danced across the crisp winter sky.
The dancing starlings weaved in and out between one another over Portlaoise on Thursday granting those lucky enough to be within eye shot of the phenomenon a beautiful sight.
Onlooker, Antoinette, posted the spectacular video to Twitter and said: "Spectacular murmuration this evening in Portlaoise."
The video has since been viewed by thousands of amazed fans who have branded the birds "extraordinary".
The term murmuration refers to the phenomenon that occurs when hundreds, and at times thousands, of starlings fly together swooping across the sky forming intricate patterns above.
The unusual sight occurs when starlings are heading to roost during the winter.
The stunning displays are known to attract keen birdwatchers from all over the country, however this year they may have to admire the beauty from the comfort of their homes.
