Stunning memorial bench and remembrance stone unveiled at Dundee’s Birkhill Cemetery

A stunning new memorial bench and commemorative stone have been unveiled at Birkhill Cemetery.

The installation is part of the city’s efforts to mark this year’s To Absent Friends Week.

The quiet space offers an area to the bereaved to remember those that they have loved and lost within the cemetery’s grounds.

To Absent Friends Week takes place during the first week of November every year to encourage people to remember, share stories, celebrate and reminisce about loved ones who have died.

The bench and stone were arranged through a collaboration between Dundee City Council and independent charity, Funeral Link.

Councillor Anne Rendall, said: “It is important for everybody who has suffered a bereavement to have a place where they can go for peaceful contemplation and remember the loved ones they have lost.

“We are pleased to support the installation of this memorial bench and commemorative stone to help provide bereaved families with somewhere for reflection and remembrance.”

Linda Sterry, Service Manager at Funeral Link, said: “It is so important that we all can have places we can go to remember those we have loved and lost, we hope this memorial bench offers that space to those who have loved ones buried here at Birkhill.”
